Although the Miami downtown area is quite sketchy and crackish, the area where the Epic Hotel seems to be quite nice. As usual at a higher end hotel there is only valet parking for $39/night but luckily I timed it just right and checked in at 5pm EST during their happy hour and we pounded down at least $39 worth of cab and chard before even setting foot in our room. That might explain why it took me a few minutes to figure out that in order for the elevator to go up I had to swipe my room key card. ::cough::
I splurged on a room this time ($314.00) so we could have a nice view of the bay and ocean and it was well worth it. I had a free room from Hotels.com for a $300 value so I figured this would be perf. The room was spacious and full of quality. Proper power outlets where they should be make a big difference in my user experience and Lauren always seeks out a stereo to plug in her phone so she can play DJ. The bathroom was gorgeous and had a waterfall shower (my fave). The fabric blind to separate the bathroom and bedroom is a bit odd though. I think bathrooms should be sealed and sound proof so when the other person is upchucking after a night of good drinkin’ you are be able to enjoy Seinfeld in peace and quiet.
This room really is all about the view though and after pulling a few muscles to open the large and extremely heavy hurricane proof doors you can step outside on the balcony and soak it all in. My eyes immediately went to the Wolfgang’s Steakhouse sign 24 floors below ( See my review of Wolfgang’s here) but then scanned the horizon and took in the amazingness. After a few minutes of soaking it in I went to the flatscreen tv and put on the hotels house channel which shows all the amazing things your hotel has to offer that you will never get around to doing. The restaurant looks gorge and the pool setup is quite spectacular. Perhaps next time we can actually try them oot.
The staff was very nice and the whole stay went smoothly. I would like to spend a few days there next time but sadly I am not a huge fan of Miami and probably won’t be back any time soon. Hopefully. -hWild

Early morning ocean view action.
I give the epic hotel a 5 out of 5 stars. Gorge view and free wine!
