If you are in the Southbank area of London and want a good steak meal you might want to try the Archduke. I am not a huge fan of Jazz music but if you are downstairs you might get a good dose of it during your meal. I think I heard “Hot and Heavy” by Elaine’s boyfriend John. We were sat upstairs which is quieter and has a nice view but be prepared for the thunder of a train above every 5 minutes.
My steak was perfectly done but unfortunately the fries were the typical bland English fries. One thing England doesn’t like to do is experiment with different french fry variations often. 99% of the fries I got from restaurants were these pasty white/yellow stubby thick fries with very little character or seasoning. Of course, any fry is a good fry (except for In-N-Oot) but I like changing the fry game up a bit. A shoestring once in a while wouldn’t hurt.
I decided to get an American beer to feel at home although I’ve never been to Brooklyn. It was a pretty tasty lager, wish I could have had more than one. My only complaint was the service. Our waitress totally forgot about us when I was in dire need of another brewski. F her. Thank god tipping isn’t a thing across the pond cuz she wouldn’t have gotten a dime out of me.
The location is good if you want to be around tourists. It’s a short walk to the Concert Hall, The London Eye, The London Dungeon, The IMAX and Big Ben is just across the Thames.
I give the Archduke a 3.5 out of 5 Burgers.
