On the quest to get my golf game back this year I decided to give this thing a try. (Note, I used to be a 3 handicap and now I am in the high 11’s so it’s really tough to talk about this. Plenty of shame in my game.)
The Zepp golf swing analyzer. People keep telling me how short my swing has gotten over the years and nothing good can come of a short swing, that much I know. Even though I feel like I am making a big turn on my backswing it really is extremely short, sometimes 1/2 turn even. I had to have my bro watch me once on the range to realize just how tiny the turn was and how far I thought I was taking it back compared what was really happening.
So, this lil bluetooth device clips on to your golf glove and takes readings from little clip as well as the mobile device in your pocket to measure arms and hip turn among other things. I want to track my progress at lengthening my backswing and also work on keeping a consistent gradual take back and good tempo. The fast little chop hack swing I have at the moment just ain’t workin’.
Zepp got a lot of good reviews online but you all know you can’t believe 99.69% of them shids. That’s why you come to me, for real honest reviews delivered in full 3D gut wrenching reality vision. I will be testing it out and reporting back on things don’t you worry.
Now that I think aboot it now though, I am doing really well in Rory McIlroy’s PGA Tour for Xbox One. I would hate to ruin my season with real golf. -hWild
FYI After a horrible round in late December I vowed to never play again. That’s how bad things got. Just like a violent and abusive relationship, here I am again, ready to dive back into the nightmare that is golf.
UPDATE 1/19/16: Soooo.. I charged it up like they said then attached to glove and even did the calibration. It says to swing and I have swung multiple times and nothing happened. Somehow it randomly worked once when I wasn’t trying to make a swing. From what I can see once you swing there is no easy way to just take another swing and so on and so forth. I need to play with it more but if I can’t simply capture my swing then I’m just pissin’ in the wind here.
UPDATE 1/20/16: Ok, so I guess you need to swing a real club in order for the app to catch it. They should probably put that on their product documentation somewhere. Regardless, I did get it to work finally and I think it’s quite amazing. You can put it in your pocket and pull it out each swing to look at your swing path and data such as tempo, club speed, rotation, plane etc but I prefer to just leave it on the ground and watch my stats come up each time I take a swing. I can see this really helping with my backswing length and tempo. I will keep updating this article as I go!
UPDATE 1/24/16: I was on the range yesterday and was impressed with the unit still. I connect via bluetooth to the phone and place it on the ground in between my legs and the ball then swing. It beeps to let you know the swing was captured then you can leave it on the statistics page and get all the numbers you need without touching a thing. Or you can switch to the 3D view of your swing and visually see your swing. When your phone is not in your pocket you don’t get the hip turn numbers but for right now I am concerned with my tempo, backswing length and club path. Definitely need to get some more length in backswing, I am topping out at 230 degrees and would like to be more around 250. More to come soon.
UPDATE 1/25/16: I am understanding now why I am not getting the club fully back and in the right position. I was not cocking my wrists and was leaving out speed and distance in my swing. I could see it using Zepp and once I figured it out I started seeing numbers around 240 degrees on backswing. Headed in the right direction!
I give the Zepp a 4 out of 5 golf balls
Buy Zepp here! It’s only like $130 yo.
